Santa Maria in Vado’s area occupies a quarter of the town inside the walls, between the centre and the medieval part.
In this zone there are some buildings that are among the most significant of the city: the Basilica with the same name, San Francesco’s Church, Paradiso palace, Ludovico il Moro’s palace, Schifanoia’s palace and the Byzantine “castrum” of the VII century (the most ancient fortified zone of Ferrara).
The symbol of this Contrada is the Unicorn (enterprise of the Estensi’s family) over a little enclosed isle, drew in the middle of the purification act of the waters of Ferrara. This act is possible thanks to the miraculous horn. In the background the colours yellow and violet.
Important for the Contrada, in addition to the musicians and the flag-wavers, is a dancing group which takes part in many national and international manifestations. It is also this group that leads the evening dedicated to renaissance style that takes place every year on May during the evening before the rides of Palio, in the Santa Maria in Vado’s closter.
